Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief C Joseph Vijay on Sunday signed his first set of documents after taking oath as the new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, approving a series of welfare measures aimed at public welfare and women’s safety.

He later chaired his first Cabinet meeting at Tamil Nadu Secretariat in Chennai and took stock of the law and order situation in the state.
Earlier today, Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, marking a new beginning in the political landscape of the state ruled by Dravidian parties for over six decades.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi attended the event alongside senior alliance leaders and thousands of supporters who gathered to witness the historic occasion.
In the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Vijay’s TVK secured 108 seats, emerging as the single largest party. The actor-politician formed an alliance with the Congress and other smaller parties to reach the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member House.
Stalin congratulates Vijay, welcomes his first order
Congratulating Vijay on taking oath as the new Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, DMK Supremo MK Stalin welcomed the first order signed by Vijay upon assuming office.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, @ActorVijay, leader of the victorious Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, upon assuming this responsibility. I also welcome the announcements you have signed immediately upon taking office,” the former Tamil Nadu CM said.
However, Stalin urged Vijay to refrain from saying that the state doesn’t have money.
“Don’t start saying right away that the government has no money. It does have it. What’s needed is the will to give it to the people, and the ability to govern,” he said.
Stalin further highlighted the welfare schemes implemented during the DMK government. “For five years, we implemented countless welfare schemes for the people despite grappling with numerous issues like COVID and floods, as well as the neglect from the Union BJP government,” he added.
He further asked Vijay not to “deceive the people who voted for you and try to divert the issue!”
